P.U.M.A. & The Art of Taekwon-Do

There are lots of reasons why people decide to take up P.U.M.A in Bath, Swindon, Yate and Bristol. Here, we take you through the reasons why P.U.M.A is good for you, whether that be for fitness, providing an activity for all the family, or socialising.

Lessons that extend beyond the classroom

In common with many of the martial arts, Taekwon-Do is founded on the principle of respect: both respect for one’s self, and for others. By adopting the spirit of Taekwon-Do as well as the physical aspects, you will find that you can both earn, and give respect in all areas of your life.

We find that children and young people in particular benefit from this. Children are all-too easily led by their peers - bullying and harassment are a sad but common reality for any child as they grow up. By developing their own self-respect, your child can avoid becoming that easy target for the playground bully – and indeed they can become the role model that others seek to emulate, rather than one who simply follows the pack.

A new social network

When you join P.U.M.A, you’ll be one of more than a hundred students, training within our three schools. You’ll make a great new circle of friends, all with a shared interest. To support these friendships, we arrange several ‘extra-curricular’ activities throughout the year, including social gatherings, camps, and friendly tournaments. If you’re looking for a way to meet great new people, then this is the place to come!

Fun for all the family!

Families are stronger when they have a shared interest – something they can all enjoy together and support each other in. At P.U.M.A we don’t just accept family membership, we positively encourage it! A large proportion of our members are family groups who are amazed at the difference it can make to all get ready and come to Taekwon-Do together, to work as a team and to enjoy each other’s successes.
Regardless of age or ability, every member can progress and develop at their own rate. It means mums and dads are free to take on more strenuous challenges, while sons and daughters take things a little slower and steadier. It’s a great way to develop skills and fitness in a safe environment, where they’re always in your line of sight.

Child protection

At P.U.M.A. we take child protection very seriously. We have an active child protection policy and a dedicated child protection officer, who looks after and heads the P.U.M.A. child protection team.

Our instructors and assistants are expected to attend regular child protection seminars. They are taught how our policy works and the best way to implement that policy to keep children safe.
It is a P.U.M.A. mandate that all instructors, assistants, helpers and anyone who is in contact with children are fully aware of the content of the policy and their responsibility to adhere to it.

All our instructors are CRB checked and required to do a full disclosure. This has to be updated on a yearly basis. A copy of the basic child protection policy can be obtained by emailing chairman@puma-uk.com or raygayle@me.com and you can ask for more child protection information if you need it.

Little PUMAs

Studies have shown that martial arts give children an increased sense of responsibility and self-esteem, as well as providing a safe environment for them to release their energy and learn self-discipline.
Our Little PUMAs are for four to seven year olds. This is a revolutionary new way of teaching children using martial arts as a platform.
We conduct a series of educational games and exercises and the aim is to prepare a child mentally as well as physically.
Skills children can improve include:
  • Hand-eye co-ordination
  • Team working skills
  • Communication
  • Verbal skills
  • How to deal with bullying
  • How to deal with strangers
Children also develop the confidence to say no and speak up for themselves.
Discipline, conflict avoidance, self-image, confidence, fitness, concentration, communication and courtesy are all parts of the Little PUMAs programme that can benefit your children. But the most important aspect of all is that your children will have fun!

Try before you buy

We know just how much you can gain from Taekwon-Do – but we don’t believe you should have to pay money to find out if you enjoy it! That’s why you can enjoy your first two lessons at P.U.M.A absolutely free, with no obligation. All we ask is that you come along with an open mind, and a willingness to learn, and we’ll do the rest!
When you come for your first visit, we’ll talk about exactly what you want to get out of your training, and come up with a plan that will help you achieve your goals. Then you’ll be given some one-to-one tuition to get you started on the basics. We’re sure you’ll absolutely love it, so come on down and give us a try!
